First Lt. Andrew Yacovone and First Lt. Justin Wright are Army rangers and have been writing music together while deployed in Afghanistan since 2014. The two recently released their song “I’m Gonna Miss You” just in time for Memorial Day.
First Lt. Yacovone and First Lt. Wright are known as Interstate 10 and most of their music is inspired by fighting in Afghanistan, as well as their fellow soldiers and their families.
“Most of our music is written on deployment,” Wright told ABC News.
After their first deployment together, the two continued to write music and even filmed the music video of “I’m Gonna Miss You” while they were both in Afghanistan. The most difficult part of the shoot, however, was that the two were not deployed together when they did it.
“We’re like, ‘Dang it, we aren’t going to be together for this deployment,'” First Lt. Yacovone said. “But we have Skype and ways to connect.”
The friends further commented on the difficulty of shooting a video while on deployment. But with cameras tapped up and flashlights used for lighting, they were still able to create an inspiring video. They will reunite at Bagram Airfield in the coming weeks to complete their deployment.
First Lt. Yacovone and First Lt. Wright encourage Americans to truly celebrate those who’ve sacrificed their lives for our country this weekend. They also encourage everyone to sing along to their new song.
