If you’re anything like us, you probably consider yourself an expert at drinking wine. But the next time you’re sipping on a glass of your favorite Pinot Noir, take a second to glance down and notice how you’re holding it.
Believe it or not, there is a right and a wrong way to hold your wine glass, and you could unknowingly be spoiling the taste of your vino depending on how you’re gripping it. If you take your wine drinking as seriously as we do, make sure you’re following the proper way to hold your glass in order to preserve the taste and get the most out of your booze.
What To Do:
Using your thumb and forefinger, hold your wine glass at the very bottom of the wine stem instead of grasping it at the base of the bowl.
Why It Works:
When your hand is closer to the wine, your body heat is more likely to warm up your wine. If you hold the glass by the stem, you won’t interfere with the temperature; the red wine will stay room temperature and the white wine will stay chilled. You may have heard this before in regards to white wine, however, red wine is just as susceptible to being ruined by heat.
