Emma Watson is bringing a new-and-improved Belle to the big screen in the remake of the Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress said she put a "modern twist," on the classical fairytale for the upcoming movie.
Watson said in the animated film, it was Belle's father who was the inventor. However, fans will be in for a treat as the roles may be reversed. “I was like, ‘Well, there was never very much information or detail at the beginning of the story as to why Belle didn’t fit in, other than she liked books. Also, what is she doing with her time?’ So, we created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit and use that time to read instead. So, yeah, we made Belle an inventor.”
The set costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, says Watson ditched the corset and instead called Belle an "active princess," and that, "She did not want a dress that was corseted or that would impede her in any way.”
The movie is set to hit theaters March 17th, 2017.
