There has been some controversy stirring around the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show as an unnamed source at ET claimed the NFL told Lady Gaga to remain silent when it comes to political discourse during this February’s primetime event.
“Lady Gaga was told by the NFL that she cannot say anything or bring anything up about the election, or mention Donald Trump,” a source close to the show told ET.
However, a representative for the NFL came out shortly after the report, calling their claims as “nonsense from people trying to stir up controversy where there is none.”
In a statement from the NFL, the rep outlines how the Super Bowl is a time when people really come together.
“Lady Gaga is focused on putting together an amazing show for fans and we love working with her on it; we aren’t going to be distracted by this,” the NFL said.
While it has been cleared up, anything can happen. The Grammy award-winning artist has been quite vocal about her political opinions since the election this past November. Regarded as a prominent supporter of Hillary Clinton, Gaga has been defiant in her stance against the president-elect and shared an image on social media the night of the election outside Trump Tower with a sign that read “Love Trumps Hate.”
It was confirmed in September that Gaga will headline the 2017 halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl LI to an estimated 115 million viewers. The event is considered the “most-watched musical event of the year,” according to an NFL statement.
One thing fans of the “Joanna” artist can expect is a great show by Gaga and a special guest performer, though there has been no confirmation as to who is might be.
“She is having a guest join her during a song,” ET’s source confirms, noting that it’s been “tough getting a guest to sign on” as two artists reportedly said no after she asked them to join her.
In the meantime, Gaga shared to her Instagram that she has been working hard and revealed a tent in her backyard with a dance floor for rehearsals.
