Singer Charles Kelley recalls, “We’d be drinking and playing ping pong for four hours before every show.”
Almost a year ago, Kelley and his wife Cassie welcomed son Ward and since then his pre-show ritual has drastically changed.
“[It’s] right before you go onstage and you’re bathing your baby and putting them down on the bed,” Kelley says. “And then you have to flip that switch and an hour later jump onstage and try to be a rock star. That’s really weird.”
Although life has changed for the 35-year-old crooner, he wouldn't have it any other way.
Ward gets to join his mom and dad on Lady A’s upcoming "You Look Good" World Tour. “We all have little bunks that we’re converting [into cribs]. It has a little gate on it, and then they pad it,” Kelley said.
He adds, “It’s fun to have that home life. It’s such a different thing.”
However, Kelley is a little nervous about taking Ward on the 12-hour flight to his shows in South Africa.
“That’s gonna be a nightmare,” he says with a smile.
