Valentine’s Day can be bittersweet for many senior citizens that have lost their loved ones. Because of that, the staff at a senior retirement home in Macon, Ga., decided to organize a Sweethearts ball for their residents, CNN reports.
“We wanted to make our residents feel loved,” said executive director Mary Hudson. The other problem was the home is filled majority with women, who wondered, “Who is going to dance with us?”
Marketing director Lauren Rutherford shared a post on Facebook inviting local firemen, police officers and other men in uniform to attend the dance and it was well received.
Chief Marvin Riggins at the Macon-Bibb County Department sent 20 of his firefighters to the dance. The women were thrilled when the men arrived. They swept the ladies off their feet as they danced the cha-cha and foxtrot.
It was such a huge hit that the staff plans on making the dance an annual event.
