A bride’s wedding day will be one of the most memorable days of her life.
For Amanda Scott she knew her special day would not be complete without her 92-year-old grandmother standing by her side, saying it might be a bit untraditional but Granny is definitely her "best friend."
After initially sharing the post to Reddit, the heartwarming moment and photos went viral.
"We were talking about the wedding party, and something about it didn't feel complete," Scott, 24, told the TODAY Show. "It was like a light bulb in my head — I should ask Granny to be a bridesmaid!"
"Realistically, she is my best friend," Scott continued. "We're just very close. We go to all our family things together, I take her to all her doctor's appointments ... we line dance together. I talk to her a lot on the phone. At the end of the day, I thought, why wouldn't I ask her?"
Scott’s grandmother, Mary Smith, was “thrilled” to be apart of the wedding party and was very helpful in her bridesmaid duties.
"I was really impressed with her!" Scott said. "She got her outfit all on her own, she donated some stuff from her past wedding to help make my veil, she was just very good at being a part of the wedding."
In an interview with PEOPLE, Scott says she thought her grandmother, who wore a beautiful white eyelet blouse, jean skirt and cowboy boots for the occasion, looked "absolutely stunning."
This was Smith’s fourth times serving as a bridesmaid. "I thought it was an honor that she asked me to be a bridesmaid at my age," Smith said. "It was a lovely day."
Scott’s bridesmaids wore denim and cowboy boots on her wedding day in July at her home in St. Catharine’s, Ontario.
