Get ready for some great news, chocolate and mocha-lovers! If you've got a sweet tooth and a need for caffeine, science may be on your side, according to a new study out of the University of Georgia.
According to the New York Post, the study showed that participants who consumed the caffeine-coca beverage had faster response times than those who just had the cocoa-drink.
The study also seemed to show that the presence of the cocoa in the cocoa-caffeine beverage lessened the anxiety-producing effects of the caffeine.
“Cocoa increases cerebral blood flow, which increases cognition and attention. Caffeine alone can increase anxiety,” study author Ali Boolani told Global News. “This particular project found that cocoa lessens caffeine’s anxiety-producing effects — a good reason to drink mocha lattes.”
However, those who consumed caffeine seemed to show higher levels of anger compared with the placebo group, though the cocoa-caffeine beverage seemed to help mitigate the anger effects as well. You know what that means - cocoa in your coffee not only makes you smarter, but it makes you happier, too! Sounds like a good enough reason to grab a mocha in the morning to us.
