This Coffee Shop Is Charging $50 for the Chance to Drink Lattes Surrounded by Rats

| Trending News

Well, this is an....interesting take on the whole cat café trend.

A new pop-up shop in San Fransisco is serving coffee with a side of rodents. Yeah, you read that right - rodents. On purpose. The stunt is called the Black Rat Café and it's happening at the San Fransisco Dungeon, according to Cosmopolitan

The Dungeon is a performance hall where tours are given by professional actors that take people through the history of San Fransisco.

"The bubonic plague section [of the Dungeon] got us thinking about what we could do with rats," the Dungeon's Matthew Clarkson told Eater.

Naturally, a coffee shop filled with rats is what came to mind. The website for the Dungeon describes the experience as a place where "guests can sip their coffee while seated at bistro-style tables, nicely draped with red and white gingham table clothes ... all while being surrounded by rats."

Tickets for the event cost $50 and the shop will only be open July 1 and July 8.

That's a pretty steep price tag, but it does include unlimited coffee, tea and pastries. If you're worried about how sanitary this might be, the food is reportedly prepared off site and will be cleared for eating before any of the rodents are let in to join the guests.

"We're obviously following all the food code and hygiene requirements," Clarkson said.

And hey, if this ends up really being your thing, you can even adopt one of the rats to take home with you.

We're not so sure it's our thing, but if you were looking for a way to face your fear of rodents or just learn a little more in an extremely immersive experience, this might just be the place for you!
