Minnie bent down and signed “I love you” to the little boy as well as “It’s nice to meet you.” The delighted child immediately rushed to hug her, with Minnie embracing him and giving him a kiss on the top of his head.

PEOPLE reports that the touching moment was captured by the non-profit organization Olive Crest, which specializes in helping at-risk children.

“He lights up,” said Heidi Riehl, a spokesperson for Olive Crest. “It’s like they speak his language.”

For Mickey and Minnie’s part, they really did speak his language. The adorable toddler was accompanied by a sign language assistant who helped tell the characters what to say to the child.

By his heartwarming reaction it’s pretty clear the little boy understood.
