Such is the power of Chip and Joanna Gaines that a house once purchased for $28,000 is now being listed for nearly $1 million, as the infamous "Shotgun House" renovated by the couple on their HGTV show Fixer Upper is now being sold for $950,000.
The Waco Tribune-Herald reports that after the renovation by the Gaines', the home has primarily been used as a rental property, despite the fact Chip and Joanna aren't the biggest fans of homeowners renting out their remodeled homes.
The shotgun house is just 1,050 square feet with the asking price putting the home at $905 a square foot, a stark contrast from other homes in the Waco, Texas area, which go for $100 to $200 a square foot.
Owners, Cameron and Jessica Bell have been renting out the property for $325 per night on Airbnb and have around $40,000 worth of bookings currently on their calendar.
Originally a rundown home that was falling apart, the shotgun house was transformed after Chip and Joanna added 20-foot high ceilings in the living room, a loft area in the back of the house and retractable stairs to add more space.
While the price tag seems rather outrageous for the area, agent Jennifer Roberts with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty in Dallas said she has had about a dozen inquiries into the home.
