A man who reported his 5-year-old son missing two months ago has been arrested and charged with the child’s murder.
Inside Edition reports that 35-year-old Aramazd Andressian Sr. was arrested in Las Vegas, authorities said on Monday. Investigators believe that Andressian, who was partying at the time of his arrest, was planning to flee the country.
“The time was right to make the arrest. Aramazd Andressian was being a flight risk,” said Jim McDonnell, Los Angeles County Sheriff.
Authorities said that Andressian had altered his appearance by shaving his beard and lightening his hair in preparation to leave the country.
Aramazd Andressian Jr. was reported missing on April 22 when his father failed to return the child to his mother at a scheduled custody transfer. Andressian Sr. and the boy were last seen together around 1 a.m. on April 21 as they were leaving Disneyland after a day with relatives.
Andressian Sr. was found unconscious later that morning in a South Pasadena park, but the little boy was nowhere to be found. Andressian Sr. told investigators that he had taken the boy to the park while waiting for a golf course to open where he said he may have been attacked.
He was arrested at that time, but released due to lack of evidence. The child’s body has never been found.
Since the child’s disappearance, Andressian Sr. has been under surveillance and while no new details have been released, authorities indicated that Andressian Sr.’s behavior was inconsistent with that of a grieving parent.
He is being held in a Las Vegas jail pending extradition to Los Angeles.
